About Santander Justicia

In 2016, Santander Justicia was developed as a specialized app tailored to workers in the legal sector, providing them with a convenient platform to streamline their legal procedures effectively.

The app primarily targeted Civil Servants and Solicitors of the Administration of Justice, offering them a range of benefits and features such as managing Court Provisions and Deposit Accounts, managing pending warrants, or viewing foreclosures.

As the sole UX/UI designer, my company was hired as an external contractor to design this smartphone application for both iOS and Android platforms.

The Project

As the project progressed, some managers made a decision to shift towards following Santander's branding and colors instead. This change posed a challenge as I didn't have access to the specific guidelines from my colleagues on the project.

Luckily, I managed to find Santander's branding guidelines from other reliable sources. This allowed me to adapt the designs accordingly, even though it deviated from the initial government-oriented approach.

Challenges

As external contractors, the project presented significant challenges. Despite working with a highly talented team, we faced limitations in communication and access to essential project resources.

Moreover, our communication with the client was limited to bi-weekly meetings at their office. This restricted contact made it difficult to gather all the insights about the project. As a result, I had to work on various prototypes and scenarios independently, in order to have enough material for discussion during the following meetings.

Another constraint was that our contract focused solely on the UX and UI aspects, and we lacked direct communication with the developers. This limitation prevented me from addressing potential implementation challenges or seeking clarification on design-related doubts.

Handoff

Overall, the team and stakeholders were highly satisfied with the final outcome. I provided separate files for both iOS and Android platforms and included all the necessary assets in Zeplin for easy access by the developers.

The app had a delightful feature that allowed it to automatically detect the date and time, greeting users with personalized messages based on the current date, time, and season. For instance, during an autumn afternoon, the login page would warmly welcome users with a message like "Good afternoon/Buenas tardes" along with a background video clip featuring an enchanting autumn forest scene.

I was successful in persuading the stakeholders to incorporate these delightful touches into the app, enhancing the user experience and making it even more enjoyable and engaging for users.
